About Us

The First Spiritual Science Church of Denver is an open metaphysical community that honors all paths of consciousness and spiritual growth.

At one time called the Temple of Harmony, our church is at 3375 South Dahlia Street, conveniently located one block north of Hampden at the NW corner of Dahlia Street and Girard Avenue, just west of I-25 (turn at the traffic light for Happy Canyon Road).

We are a volunteer congregation. Most members serve without any monetary compensation, including the pastor, Rev. Susan Miller. Donations support our operations, including love offerings at the classes and events hosted by the church. We also are gaining a reputation as a great venue for weddings.   We are a membership organization and annual dues are $10 which must be paid by the end of February in order to vote at the annual membership meeting in March.  In 2011, the meeting will be held after the Sunday service on March 20th.   There will be an open town meeting for members after the service on February 20th and all members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Our Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Doors open on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. for spirit-directed energy healings, which also are offered at the end of our service together with messages from our spiritual readers. Services are followed by a potluck communal lunch.

On the first Thursday of each month, we offer a special healing and reading service starting at 7 p.m.

Explaining the Symbol of Spiritual Science

The symbol used by the First Spiritual Science Church of Denver was developed by one of our members in the 1990s. Here is an explanation of the the symbol elements and their meaning.

THE CIRCLE: The circle reminds us of the circle of life. Most creations in the universe are circular. Everything depends on everything else, interconnected, called the Circle of Life. The Sun is round, as our the moon and the stars and other celestial bodies.  They travel in circular motion throughout the universe. We are like drops of rain which will one day return to the ocean. All of life is a circular process. We are born, we live, we die, we return to our original spiritual home, then we return to be reborn again in another physical body. The Circle of Life teaches us that we are all children of the Earth, that we all share an equal place in the circle.

THE HEART: The heart reminds us of love. Love is our true self at its purest, for we are all sparks of God (or whatever term we prefer for the Divine Source), and God is love. Our highest duty in life is to strive at all times to express the divine love within us and to radiate the God essence to all we encounter as we walk through life

INFINITY: Infinity reminds us of the unknown and the unknowable. Both time and space are impossible for us to understand. Either they have finite beginnings and endings, or they have no beginning or ending. Either possibility is impossible for us to comprehend. This reminds us of our Creator and our place in the overall scheme of things. We are reminded that we are spirits occupying physical bodies, who were created by God and who share in God’s ability to co-create our world.

THE FOUR DIRECTIONS: The Four Directions have many things to teach us. They remind us of the East, South, West and North. Also of the four sacred colors representing the four races: Yellow, Red, Black and White. The Four Directions teach us to strive to keep a balance between the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our selves. The number four occurs in many different ways in our world.

East symbolizes birth, rebirth,  beginnings, renewal, innocence, spontaneity, joy, capacity to believe in the unseen, purity, trust, hope, uncritical acceptance of others, unconditional love, vulnerability, and devotion to the service of others. East is associated with springtime, dawn, childhood, the lover, the soul, spirituality, the element of air.

South represents the heart, generosity, loyalty, noble passions, love of one person for another, physical discipline, determination, gracefulness, discrimination in sight, hearing and taste, passionate involvement in the world, idealism, compassion and kindness, anger at injustice, and the ability to express good and bad feelings as well as to set aside feelings in order to serve others. South is associated with summer, noon, youth, the warrior, the mind, thinking, the element of fire.

West represents the unknown, dreams, going within, testing of the will, perseverance, spiritual insight, daily prayer, meditation, respect for elders, respect for others’ beliefs, awareness of our spiritual nature, sacrifice, humility, love for the Creator, commitment to the path of personal development, commitment to universal life values and a high moral code, ceremony, and a sense of possibilities and potentialities. West is associated with autumn, sunset, middle age, the magician, the heart, emotions, the element of water.

North represents our elders, wisdom, thinking, analyzing, understanding, problem solving, completion, fulfillment, lessons of things that end, capacity to finish what we begin, detachment, freedom from fear, freedom from hate, freedom from love, seeing how all things fit together, insight, intuition made conscious, sense . of how to live a balanced life, capacity to dwell in the center of things to see and take the middle way, moderation, and justice. North is associated with winter, midnight, old age, the monarch, the body, physical reality, the element of earth.
